Good morning, sellers! Welcome to October 5, 2026's edition. Today: Prime Big Deal Days opens at 12:01 AM PDT tomorrow with Walmart's rival sale already live, Austria's €2 parcel tax lands on Amazon orders, and USPS stretches Ground Advantage to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico past ten days. Let's dive in…

Data gathered at 6:05 AM ET, October 5, 2026.

No new Seller Central policy, fee or Amazon Ads announcement was verifiable for October 3-5, 2026. Items below carry their real dates.

1. Top Story of the Day

Prime Big Deal Days opens at 12:01 AM PDT tomorrow, and Walmart's sale is already live

What happened: Prime Big Deal Days runs October 6-7, 2026, opening at 12:01 AM PDT — 3:01 AM ET — for 48 hours across 22 countries and more than 35 categories. New limited-time deals drop three times a day, at midnight, 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM PDT, six drops in all. Walmart Deals went live at 12:00 AM ET today and runs October 5-11, 2026, at up to 50% off with no membership required.

Adobe forecasts $9.9 billion in US online spending across the two days, up 9.2% year over year, inside an October it puts at $95.8 billion, up 8%, per PPC Land's report of the forecast.

Why it matters: Deal submissions closed September 8, 2026, so the roster is fixed. What is still adjustable is price, and one standing rule governs it. Amazon's Holiday 2026 post reads: "Prime Big Deal Days promotional prices are excluded from the 30-day and 60-day lookback window and won't affect the maximum deal price required for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday deals."

Expert take: Read the rule for what it covers. It excludes promotional prices in the event — it says nothing about a plain list-price cut made this week. Assume a non-promotional cut still enters the lookback and lowers the ceiling for a November deal.

A deal costs $100 upfront plus 1.5% of promotional sales, capped at $5,000 — a cap reached only at about $333,333 of promotional sales.

Walmart's calendar is the pressure point — one day alone before Amazon's event and four days alone after it.

2. Amazon Policy & Program Updates

Shipping & Carriers

USPS adjusted service expectations for noncontiguous destinations effective October 1, 2026, in a notice dated September 25, 2026. USPS Ground Advantage packages between the contiguous US and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam and the other territories now carry "a 10-day or more service expectation," and "some service expectations may be significantly longer than 10 days."

The lightweight parcel is the one that changed. Ground Advantage under one pound used to travel by both air and surface; now, "Regardless of weight, noncontiguous USPS Ground Advantage packages will now primarily utilize surface transportation." Merchant-fulfilled sellers promising those destinations on Ground Advantage transit times should re-check their shipping templates. (USPS)

3. False Alarms & Noise Filter

Claim: Amazon announced on September 30, 2026 that good customer service adds up to 12 points to Account Health Rating.

Status: Debunked.

What we know: The feature is real; the date is not. Amazon's Seller Forums announcement is about a month old, and Seller Essentials covered it on September 4, 2026. Terms: up to 12 points on seller-fulfilled orders for a buyer contact rate below 0.50%, average response time under 12 hours and a buyer dissatisfaction rate below 4.5%. It is upside only — "We won't restrict selling privileges for below-average results." Amazon has not said how the points split across the three metrics or what measurement window applies. 4. Marketplace Opportunities & Threats

FedEx's 2027 increase is 5.9% on paper, and the ZIP list is the real number

Setup: FedEx package list rates rise an average of 5.9% effective January 4, 2027, with revised Delivery Area Surcharge ZIP code lists the same day. A $25 Paper Document Fee and a $5 Paper Air Waybill Fee follow on January 18, 2027. FedEx published this in September.

Math: Reveel's analysis counts 2,533 ZIP codes moving from Extended to Remote. On those, the commercial surcharge goes from $5.55 to $17.75 — up $12.20, or 219.8% — and the residential surcharge rises 101.7%. ZIPs that stay Extended go from $8.80 to $9.60 residential, up 9.1%.

Who this fits: Merchant-fulfilled sellers shipping FedEx to rural addresses. FBA fees are unaffected.

Execute: The revised lists are downloadable now — match them against your last 90 days of ship-to addresses before setting 2027 shipping prices.

5. International & Cross-Border

Austria's €2 parcel tax is live, and Amazon is the liable party

Austria's parcel delivery tax took effect October 1, 2026 at €2 per parcel, applying only where a seller's distance sales "exceeded EUR 100 million in the preceding fiscal year." Marketplace sales "are attributed to the marketplace" under a deemed supplier rule, so Amazon owes it on third-party orders whatever the seller's own turnover.

VOL.AT reported on October 1, 2026 that Amazon charges the buyer €2.40 including VAT once per order, refunded only if the entire order is returned. No Amazon statement or seller-side fee was verifiable. For sellers it is a checkout charge you neither set nor receive, five days before Prime Big Deal Days runs in Austria. 6. Compliance & Account Health Alerts

Two rechargeable hand-warmer recalls on one day

The CPSC recalled about 77,000 Kobayashi HotHands rechargeable hand warmers on October 1, 2026, recall number 27-011, model H163650 — sold at Target, The Home Depot, Amazon.com and others from July 2025 through August 2026 for $30 to $40. No incidents were reported. About 5,500 Gobi Heat rechargeable hand warmers were recalled the same day for the same hazard: "The lithium-ion battery and electrical components in the recalled hand warmers can overheat and ignite." Resellers holding model H163650 should pull it. (CPSC; CPSC)
