Good morning, sellers! Welcome to September 24, 2026's edition. Today: Amazon opens Seller Central's data and action buttons to outside AI agents, two FBA returns programs get renamed with a per-unit price, and an eBay shipping default flips. Let's dive in…

1. Top Story of the Day

Amazon opens Seller Central's data and actions to outside AI agents, in beta with Anthropic's Claude

What happened: At Amazon Accelerate 2026 in Seattle on September 23, 2026, Amazon announced the Selling Partner plugin, which connects a seller's listings, performance metrics, inventory and sales analytics to outside AI agents and lets them act on it "the same way Seller Assistant does inside Seller Central." It launches in Amazon Quick and in beta with Anthropic's Claude in Amazon's US stores, more integrations to follow; setup takes roughly 60 seconds with no coding.

Seller Assistant itself gained persistent memory of a seller's pricing patterns, inventory cycles and growth goals, carried across Seller Central, Amazon Quick and Claude rather than reset between sessions, plus a canvas workspace built from live data and always-on workflows set to either surface recommendations or take actions.

Why it matters: Mary Beth Westmoreland, VP of Worldwide Selling Partner Experience, put it plainly: "Our vision was that they would never have to log into Seller Central. We would just bring it to them where they work." Amazon says 90% of its selling partners already use third-party AI tools — the work already happens outside Seller Central, and Amazon would rather supply the data than lose the workflow.

Expert take: Read this against what Amazon did two days earlier; the two are one decision. This publication covered Amazon blocking Meta's Muse agent from shopping on Amazon.com on September 20. Amazon is closing the buyer side to outside agents while opening the seller side to them: agents that remove ad impressions get blocked, agents that help sellers spend on ads get an official plugin.

Treat the control surface as the real setup task, not the 60 seconds. Amazon says sellers pick which data types are exposed, approve actions before they execute, and get complete audit trails. Note what Amazon did not claim: nothing in the announcement says the plugin manages bids or budgets.

2. Amazon Policy & Program Updates

FBA & Fulfillment

An Amazon email dated September 21, 2026 says that effective October 21, 2026 it will expand and rename two returns programs: Refurbishment becomes Restore to New, and FBA Grade and Resell becomes Sell as Used. Restore to New is charged at $1.50 to $4.10 per unit. Items that cannot be brought to new condition are relisted as used if the seller is enrolled in Sell as Used; otherwise they follow standard unfulfillable inventory settings.

The two programs chain: Restore to New runs first at a per-unit cost, and Sell as Used catches the units that fail it. Enrolling in the first without the second means paying up to $4.10 per unit for an attempt with no fallback. (Sellers Ask Sellers)

3. False Alarms & Noise Filter

Claim: Amazon Accelerate 2026 announced the end of commingling, a single global inventory pool cutting storage costs 20-40%, and Custom Analytics with more than 100 metrics.

Status: Debunked.

What we know: These are recycled Accelerate 2025 and 2024 announcements republished this week as 2026 takeaways. A widely-surfacing "Key Takeaways from Amazon Accelerate 2026" article carries an internal date of September 29, 2025; a Seller Forums thread ranking highly for 2026 queries was posted in 2024. GeekWire treats commingling as a past grievance Amazon "finally ended after years of backlash," not as news. This publication flagged the same recycling yesterday; what changed is that genuine 2026 announcements now sit alongside the recycled ones, making the two harder to separate, not easier. (GeekWire)

4. Marketplace Opportunities & Threats

eBay flips calculated shipping to discounted rates, and the opt-out closes tomorrow

Setup: From October 1, 2026, eBay listings using calculated shipping default to showing eBay's discounted label rates to buyers rather than retail rates. Sellers who received the notice have until September 25, 2026 to opt out, or can change the setting back after October 1.

Who this fits: eBay sellers on calculated shipping whose shipping charge runs above their label cost. Flat-rate and free listings are unaffected.

Execute: Confirm your account received the notice before changing anything. If the gap between what buyers pay for shipping and what you pay for labels covers part of your fulfillment cost, that contribution is what the new default removes.

It lands on top of the USPS label rates eBay raised on September 19 with one day's notice, which moved Priority Mail up to 10 lbs by as much as $4.35 at Zone 8. Sellers who priced Q4 off the old rates absorb both. (EcomCrew; EcomCrew)

5. Seller Community Pulse

A Sellers Ask Sellers thread posted September 23, 2026 on the Sell as Used rename drew skepticism, not interest. Sellers questioned whether shoes and apparel should be refurbished and resold, and whether manufacturer warranties survive a Restore to New pass.

The warranty question is the one with money behind it. If you sell warrantied goods, establish before October 21 whether your manufacturer covers a Restore to New unit. (Sellers Ask Sellers)

6. Looking Ahead
