Amazon Seller Briefing: September 8, 2026
Amazon Shipping raised its peak per-package demand surcharge 25% for the 2026 holiday window, to $0.75 from November 22 through December 26. Business Deals submissions for Prime Big Deal Days close today, September 8.
Good morning, sellers! Welcome to September 8, 2026's edition. Today: Amazon Shipping raises its per-package peak surcharge 25%, Business Deals submissions close tonight, and this week's apparent confirmation of the October dates proves a year old. Let's dive in…
Data gathered at 6:05 AM ET, September 8, 2026.
1. Top Story of the Day
Amazon Shipping raises the peak per-package demand surcharge 25% for the 2026 holiday window
What happened: Amazon Shipping — the standalone parcel carrier, not FBA — published its 2026 peak season demand surcharges, running October 25, 2026 through January 16, 2027 in three bands. The per-package demand surcharge is $0.50 to November 21, $0.75 from November 22 to December 26, then $0.50 to January 16, 2027. Across the same three bands, Additional Handling runs $8.75, $11.90, $8.75; Large Package $96.25, $117.50, $96.25; and Extra Heavy Package $530, $590, $530. Amazon states the pricing applies automatically to existing customers on top of contracted rates.
Why it matters: Against the 2025 schedule, the demand surcharge rises from $0.40 to $0.50 in the shoulder bands and $0.60 to $0.75 at peak — $0.10 and $0.15, exactly 25% in both. The accessorials rise less steeply, from 2025 rates of $8.25 and $10.80 on Additional Handling, $90.00 and $107.00 on Large Package, and $485 and $540 on Extra Heavy Package — between 6.1% and 10.2%. The window is the same 84 days but starts a day earlier.
Expert take: The demand surcharge is the line to model, because it applies to every package rather than a qualifying subset. A seller moving 10,000 packages through the peak band pays $7,500 against $6,000 last year — $1,500 on volume alone, before one parcel triggers an accessorial. It sits alongside, not instead of, the FBA peak fulfillment fees starting October 15 at an average $0.32 per unit.
Action items:
- Reprice Q4 shipping on the 2026 numbers: $0.10 more per package before November 22, $0.15 through December 26, and a day earlier — parcels tendered October 25 now carry it.
- Check which parcels trip Additional Handling, where the peak increase is $1.10 — over seven times the demand-surcharge increase on the same shipment.

2. Amazon Policy & Program Updates
FBA & Fulfillment
Amazon closes PBI3, its Port St. Lucie, Florida fulfillment center, on September 17, 2026, laying off 494 workers. Amazon calls the closure temporary, but the WARN Act notice was filed under the federal definition of a permanent closure — any shutdown lasting more than six months. It is the second Florida FBA closure in three months, after Homestead, and reporting indicates inventory for those ZIP codes re-routes to Georgia's ATL cluster and Alabama's BHM6.
The date is the problem: the node leaves the network nine days before the September 16 inventory cutoff. Check any shipment already created against PBI3 before sending more Southeast-bound stock. (novadata, reporting the July 20, 2026 announcement)
2A. False Alarms & Noise Filter
Monitoring — "Amazon has confirmed Prime Big Deal Days 2026 for October 7-8."
What we actually know: Still unconfirmed, and the apparent confirmation circulating this week does not survive a date check. The widely linked article headlined "Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days start on October 7" is dated September 16, 2025 and describes last year's event, which did run October 7-8. Amazon's July 2026 guidance says only that the event returns "at the same time as last year." No operational date depends on the answer: submission closes today, and the FBA inventory deadlines are September 9 and September 16. (TODAY)
3. Marketplace Opportunities & Threats
Business Deals open to ten marketplaces, and the first window closes tonight
Amazon opened Business Deals to Amazon Business customers across ten marketplaces on August 31, 2026 — the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Mexico and Australia — a reach Amazon puts at 11 million business accounts. India, an eleventh Amazon Business market, was excluded without explanation.
Eligibility requires an existing Business Price, a 3.5-star minimum rating and New condition. The discount minimum is 10% off the Business Price, or 15% for a High Velocity Event — a set Amazon defines to include Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Deals run one hour to 30 days. Enhanced visibility through email and push campaigns is free until December 31, 2026, and Amazon has not said whether Business Deals carry a promotion fee.
The free-visibility window and the fee silence point the same way — a launch incentive whose second half is unpriced. Treat December 31 as the end of the terms you can verify, and confirm Business Prices are set before submitting. (ppc.land)
4. International & Cross-Border
Amazon India raised closing fees effective September 7, 2026 — up ₹1 for products up to ₹500 and ₹3 above ₹500 — on the Fulfilment Centre, Easy Ship and Seller Flex models, citing higher fuel and logistics costs.
Separately, effective August 17, 2026, Amazon India replaced its referral-fee-linked cancellation charge with a percentage of order value on Easy Ship and Self Ship: 10% below ₹10,000, 8% from ₹10,001 to ₹50,000, 5% from ₹50,001 to ₹1 lakh, and 2% above ₹1 lakh, with 18% GST on top. It covers seller-initiated cancellations, excluding buyer-requested ones, and failure to ship within 24 hours of the estimated ship date. Amazon said the revision is meant to "encourage timely and dependable fulfilment," and that seller-initiated cancellations are under 1% of orders on Amazon.in. Both changes land hardest on small baskets — the flat ₹1 bites most under ₹500, and the cancellation rate is steepest where order values are lowest. (The Logical Indian)
5. Seller Community Pulse
Around September 6, 2026, a seller reported the Seller Central Promotions page showing only All Customers and Prime Customers, with no All Business Customers option — contradicting Amazon's setup instructions for Business Deals. It points to a staged rollout rather than the simultaneous ten-market availability the August 31 announcement implied. That matters today: a missing audience option and a missed deadline look identical from the seller's side. (ppc.land)
