Free RV Tools and Calculators

Section updated .

Four free calculators for the RV planning decisions that come down to arithmetic: what a trip costs in fuel, how much margin your weights leave under your ratings, how many days your propane will last, and how long a driving day takes with fuel stops and a sunset check. Each uses only the numbers you enter, shows its formula, runs in your browser and needs no sign-up. This is an independent publication.

Every tool page states its method in plain words and works through an example with clearly hypothetical numbers, so you can reach the same answer on paper if you prefer. Nothing you type leaves your browser, and nothing is stored.

How to use these well

Gather your own figures before you start — fuel economy from your fill-ups, weight ratings from the labels and manuals for your rig, weights from a scale ticket, appliance ratings from their data plates, and sunset times for the day and place you will arrive. The boxes start empty on purpose: the grey text is an example only. Where a tool asks for a personal limit, such as a reserve or a caution band, it is your choice and not a rule. For the reasoning behind the weight ratings, see the towing weight ratings and GVWR guide, and for planning a whole trip see plan legs, fuel, water and dump.

Frequently asked questions

Are these RV tools free?

Yes, all of them, with no sign-up. Each runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is sent anywhere and nothing is stored after you close the page.

Do the tools know my rig’s weight ratings or fuel economy?

No, deliberately. Ratings, fuel economy, tank size and appliance loads differ between rigs, so you supply them from your own labels, manuals, scale tickets and receipts. The grey text in each box is a marked example only.

How accurate are the results?

They are estimates built from stated formulas, and each page shows the method in words so you can check the working. The tools use only the numbers you enter, so figures from your own rig and records give far more useful answers than typical values.

Can a tool tell me whether my rig is safe to travel?

No. The weight margin checker compares the numbers you type with the ratings you type, and being over a rating is a safety and legal issue to confirm with the manufacturer. None of the tools replaces an inspection, a scale ticket or the manufacturer’s documents.

Do they work offline?

Yes. The pages and the calculations are self-contained, so they keep working without a connection once the page has loaded.
