Routine type
A foundational morning and evening routine for anyone new to skincare. Works across normal, dry, combination, and oily skin once the cleanser and moisturizer are matched to skin type.
Who it is for
- First-time builders who want to start with the right four products instead of the wrong fourteen.
- Returning users rebuilding after over-stripped or irritated skin.
- Teens and young adults under guidance.
Morning steps
- Cleanse. Water rinse, or gentle gel/cream cleanser if skin is oily or makeup is on overnight.
- Moisturize. Ceramide-rich for dry skin, light gel-cream for oily skin.
- Sunscreen. Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. The single most important step.
Evening steps
- Cleanse. Oil or balm cleanse first to remove makeup/SPF, then a gentle gel/cream cleanser.
- Moisturize. Same cream as morning, or a slightly richer version in dry climates.
That's the whole routine to start. Two weeks at this level is the cheat code most people skip.
Weekly treatments
- Week 2 onward: add one active. Choose one of: niacinamide (any skin type), salicylic acid 2% (oily/congested), gentle retinol 0.1% (anti-aging), azelaic acid 10% (rosacea/PIH).
- Use it 2 nights per week for two weeks. If skin is calm, increase to every other night.
- Only add a second active after one month at this rhythm.
Common mistakes
- Starting with five actives at once. You'll never know what worked or what hurt.
- Daily strong exfoliation. Twice a week is the ceiling for most.
- Skipping sunscreen because "I'm inside." UVA passes through window glass.
- Using a "10-step routine" because the influencer does. They get paid; your face doesn't.
- Patch testing on the cheek and calling it a patch test. Behind the ear or on the inner arm, 5 nights.
